The History of the HSACC

The Harbor Springs Area Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street, Harbor Springs.
The history of a Chamber of Commerce in Harbor Springs has been traced back as far as the 1930's. We're proud to note that a handful of charter members still remain active today in the current organization.
The organization remained consistent for the next thirty years, growing slowly with headquarters based in Harbor Springs and utilizing mostly volunteer efforts for administration and accounting.
During the 1980's it was decided that the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce would begin handling administrative duties for the Harbor Chamber while retaining separate Boards and budgets.
All-America City 1975-76

In 1975, Harbor Springs was given the highest honor from the country's oldest community recognition program, the coveted All-America City Award. The award is given annually to only ten communities by the National Civi League, an organization founded to promote quality futures of American cities and their governments.
Being one of only 16 other communities in Michigan to ever receive the award, Harbor Springs is one of more than 4,000 communities competing since the program's inception in 1959. The most recent Michigan community to win was Port Huron in 2005.
The award recognizes citizens working together to identify and overcome community challenges, while achieving uncommon results.
