Among the top priorities of the Harbor Springs Chamber of Commerce is best characterized by a portion of its mission statement: 

To support, enhance and contribute to the well being of the business community while preserving the distinctive long established character and tradition of the greater Harbor Springs area. 

Indeed, all Chamber programs, services, events and activities are organized and administered with the highest regard for the integrity of our wonderful community, and as importantly, the enjoyment of all who contribute to its irreplaceable character.

*Chamber Member Volunteer Opportunities Available

  • Board of Directors: The task of governing the Harbor Springs Chamber of Commerce includes monitoring issues like finance and services, evaluating the progress of the organization, and a hundred other things that will contribute to our viability and vitality. Directors are elected by a vote general membership in December of each year.
  • Ambassadors: The membership relations specialists of the Harbor Springs Chamber of Commerce, this highly motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic group is responsible for welcoming new members, and strengthening bonds between Chamber partners by serving as organizers and hosts of the Chamber’s business networking events and Annual Harbor Heroes Community Awards Dinner.
  • Destination Planning Committee: The mission of this newly formed committee is "to coordinate Chamber member businesses and incorporate them into a plan that will be used to maximize and promote the visitor experience in the greater Harbor Springs area". Current projects include the creation of a visitor driven web site that is expected to be launched in early winter 2005-2006.
  • Harbor Springs Business Committee: Comprised of business representatives from throughout the greater Harbor Springs business community, this group coordinates and support events and projects in downtown Harbor Springs, and serves as a liaison between downtown businesses and the Harbor Springs Chamber of Commerce, providing each with communications about events, projects and issues.
  • Membership Committee: The Membership Committee has been recently been charged with various tasks relating to the overall health and vitality of the Harbor Springs Chamber of Commerce. Among its top priorities are improved communications between the Chamber and its membership, and membership benefit development.

Not in business? Not a problem… the Chamber does not discriminate! We have many fun opportunities available to make new friends and become more involved in the greater Harbor Springs community:

  • Saturday and On-Call Receptionist: The Chamber is currently seeking self motivated individuals with a love and knowledge of Harbor Springs to welcome and assist visitors in the office on Saturdays during June, July, August, and the first two weekends in October, or as requested at other times during the year. Hours are flexible and rewards are endless! Computer skills preferred.
  • Communications: The Chamber is also seeking individuals with multi-media communication experience to assist with press releases, and other Chamber publications and event and program promotion. Qualified candidates may work from home.
  • **Event Support: Volunteers are always needed (and greatly appreciated) to help plan, promote, execute and serve as Chamber Hosts for events that are designed specifically for the enjoyment and benefit of the residents and businesspeople of the greater Harbor Springs Community. Annual events and related opportunities include:
    • President's Weekend Chili Cook-Off and other downtown activities (mid-February): Event Planners
    • Trillium Festival (mid-late May): Event Planners for Art Walk; Morel Mushroom Hunting; Art and Cooking Seminars
    • Street Musique Summer Concert Series (late June through mid-August): Event Planners
    • July 4th: Parade Marshals
    • Harbor Harvest Festival (early October): Event Planners for Arts and Crafts Fair; Food Event
    • Christmas Open House (first Wednesday in December): Entertainment Planners
      Noel Night (mid-December): Event Planners for Entertainment; Gingerbread House Contest
