Little Traverse Lighthouse Tours
The Harbor Springs Area Historical Society is excited to announce the return of our popular tour of the Little Traverse Lighthouse on Harbor Point on Saturday, October 5. Tickets are $75 per person. Tickets are nonrefundable and payment must be made at the time of the reservation.
Constructed in 1884, the Little Traverse Lighthouse operated until 1963 when it was decommissioned by the U.S. Coast Guard and returned to the ownership of the Harbor Point Association. Beginning in the early 1990s, the association and its lighthouse committee have worked to restore the building and grounds of this important piece of Harbor Springs history.
Each docent-guided tour takes guests through the grounds of the lighthouse, the main floor, kitchen, and second floor quarters. Each tour also includes a trip into the tower to see the fourth-order Fresnel lens and enjoy a stunning view of Little Traverse Bay. The interior of the lighthouse has been beautifully restored and features artifacts such as the original plans of the building as well as rare photographs of local maritime activity and social life in the Victorian era.
The lighthouse building is not handicap accessible. Tours are not recommended for those who have difficulty standing, climbing stairs, or for children under the age of ten.
This event is made possible through the generosity of the Harbor Point Association and is supported through underwriting by the Petoskey Area Visitor’s Bureau.
