    POSITION SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES
    Create and manage operating budgets for six nonprofit areas ($1.8M) and for REM, Inc. ($700K).  Manage all accounting functions as well as cash and investment accounts ($12.3M on 09/30/21).  Perform fund accounting per FASB guidelines for 52 endowment and capital-reserve project funds. Plan and track capital and major maintenance expenditures.
    Provide timely, actionable financial reports to executive management, programs, and committees.  Primary liaison to member committees:  Finance, Investment, Board of Assessors, and Internal Audit.  Responsible for managing independent annual financial audit.  Oversee the planning and administration of employee benefits and liability insurance.
     
    Accounting Operations:

    • Oversee accounting for all receivables, payables, and cash receipts.
      • Invoicing members and leaseholds:  Property Tax, Lot Rent, Chautauqua Fee, CAP-X Fees & Assessments, Member Dues
      • Manage and report on delinquent accounts
      • Oversee vendor payables, business credit card expenditures, and special contractual agreements
      • Ensure that cash receipts are logged and processed appropriately
    • Supervise payroll processing for 14 full-time staff plus 100 seasonal staff
    • Ensure that employee pension contributions and BVA matches are recorded properly
    • Responsible for accounting on $7.3M in net property and equipment as well as construction in progress
    • Account for all investment activity, including allocation of interest income and gains or losses to project funds
    • Maintain charts of accounts, net asset classifications, and project fund id’s
    • Analyze and account for intercompany allocations between BVA and affiliated entities
    • Keep standard operating procedures current
     
     
     
    Financial Management:
    • Lead the fiscal year budget process
      • Coordinate iterative budget meetings with Directors, Treasurer, and Finance Committee
        • Present recommended budgets to the Board of Trustees
      • Provide details regarding endowment funds available for operating budgets and CAP-X
      • Track employee pay and benefits changes
    • Provide financial reporting
      • All endowment and capital reserve project fund reports
      • All income statement & balance sheet reports
      • Budget variance reports
      • GAAP financial reports for audit
        • Update audit report footnotes
    • Investment analysis
      • Ensure compliance with donor gift agreements
      • Uphold investment policies
     
    Human Resources and Insurance:
    • Work with BVA’s employee benefits advisor and BVA’s property and liability insurance broker to recommend the best insurance plans for the association and its employees
    • Oversee all employee onboarding and terminations
    • Review annual workers compensation audits
    • Create a work environment that is rewarding to staff.  Encourage professional development
    • Set performance goals (with the Executive Director) for your department.  Coach, mentor and evaluate direct reports
     
    JOB QUALIFICATIONS
    Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university
    • Minimum of five years’ experience in fund accounting as well as for-profit accounting; audits, financial reporting, budgeting, and project management
    • Experience with intercompany accounting
    • Ability to work efficiently in Microsoft Office suite and other business technology and associated software
    • Strong attention to detail and drive for accuracy.  Well organized.  Strive for productivity and efficiency
      • Proven track record for identifying and implementing process improvements
    • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally to diverse audiences
    • Positive customer service orientation working with Directors, Board of Trustees, members, and staff
    • Ability to contribute constructively to team efforts and to work independently
    • Strong leadership skills including attention to staff development
    Preferred:
    • CPA
    • Knowledge of Blackbaud’s Financial Edge and Raisers Edge software
    • Knowledge of GAAP rules and ability to create GAAP financial reports for each fiscal year
      • Understand nonprofit net asset classifications for accounting and reporting
    • Experience with meeting legal organization compliance requirements
