About Us

Gallery On Third lives in a magical space that is rich with history. Originally built in 1916 for keeping the horses and buggies used on Harbor Point, by the 1930's it became a Packard car dealership.  Over the years it has worn many hats, but the history is embedded in the original stone walls and concrete floor .  The artist Cynthia Rutherford's works are similar to the structure itself in that her abstract paintings are layers of graphite marks, graffiti, words, oil paint and gold leaf that tell a story. She describes her method as ''palimpsest'' which is defined as something re-used or altered yet still bearing visible traces of its earlier form, akin to our memories as we go through life.  Thinking back on a moment that was meaningful yet faded by the next one and the next...
