Using archival and newly shot material, Maiden tells the true story of how Tracy Edwards, a 24-year-old cook on charter boats, became the skipper of the first ever all-female crew to enter the Whitbread Round the World in 1989. Edwards’s inspirational dream was opposed on all sides: her male competitors thought an all-women crew would never make it, the chauvinistic yachting press took bets on her failure, and potential sponsors rejected her. But in refusing to give up, Edwards and her remarkable crew went on to shock the sport industry, attest that women are the equal of men, and become headline news across the world. Presented on the Center's 45-foot cinema screen with theatrical surround sound. For tickets and more information visit greatlakescfa.org, e-mail tickets@greatlakescfa.org, or call 231.439.2610.
