Drama Teachers' Workshop: "Comedic Technique: The Sweet Science of Comedy"
Facilitator is Prof. Bill Irwin from the University of Michigan - Flint Dept. of Theatre and Dance. From classic dramatic literature to American musical theatre, comic opera to contemporary sitcoms, this workshop enables participants to grasp the mechanics of comedy, and convey it to their students via numerous practical approaches and exercises. We will develop a working vocabulary of comedic technique, study great comedic performances, and explore how comedy works through a series of performance-based exercises including improvisation and mask work. Coursework has direct applications for teachers of literature, music, and drama as well as for those who desire to complement their teaching with humor. Made possible through the support of Harbor Springs Public Schools, Stafford’s Hospitality, Little Traverse Civic Theatre, Bay View Association, The University of Michigan-Flint, and the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation.
