Tinker, Tailor, Welder, Weaver: The Art of Assemblage
On display in CTAC-Petoskey’s Gilbert Gallery, “Tinker, Tailor, Welder, Weaver: The Art of Assemblage” includes two and three dimensional works of assemblage and collage created by eight Michigan artists, including: Dewey Blocksma, Indy Bacon, Stephen Palmer, Mary Beth Acosta, Beth Bynum Donna Collins, Cherie Correll, and Brian Schorn. Although all of the artists employ found objects and materials, their aesthetic strategies and forms range from formal to whimsical, figurative to non-objective. Dewey Blocksma’s sculptures pivot on social satire, while Brian Schorn’s reliefs are based in contemplative practice. Indy Bacon incorporates fine antique elements into her figurative reliefs, while Cherie Correll’s constructions involve bits of old tire, tale pipes, and the detritus of highways. Each artist has a fascinating and distinctive approach to the art of assemblage. Tinker, Tailor, Welder, Weaver: The Art of Assemblage will be on display in Petoskey from January 19- March 23, 2017.
