            • History of the Chautauqua Movement

Janet Riley will speak on the History of the Chautauqua Movement on June 18 at 7:30 pm at Voorhies Hall in Bay View. The event is open to the public and free of charge. She has been researching the Chautauqua movement and visiting Chautauqua for more than a year. During her talk, Janet will share photos and stories about Chautauqua people and places captured throughout her journey. She will offer reflections about the Chautauqua movement and history and why Chautauqua's pillars (Arts, Education, Recreation and Religion) are more relevant than ever. She will also share how the experience impacted her personally. About the speaker: Janet Riley earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism at Northwestern University’s Medill of Journalism and her master’s of organizational development and leadership at Saint Joseph’s University. Founded in 1875, the Bay View Association has its roots in the Chautauqua Movement. Open to all, Bay View is a welcoming place to experience a summer that transforms the mind, body and soul. The Bay View Association is an historic, summer community. Voorhies Hall is opposite the Bay View Library. There is plenty of free, on-street parking. This event is open to the public, of charge, sponsored by the Campus Club of Bay View.
