• Facilities Assistant - Part Time

    Birchwood Construction is looking for a dependable, hands-on Part-Time Facilities Assistant to help keep our Harbor Springs campus clean, organized, safe, and well maintained.

    Our campus includes 8 buildings across approximately 2 acres, so there is always something that needs attention. This is a great position for someone who enjoys staying busy, working independently, fixing the little things, and taking pride in keeping a property looking its best.

    This is not a skilled trades position. Electrical, HVAC, plumbing, lawn care, and snow removal are handled by our contracted professionals. We need someone who can take care of the day-to-day items in between.

    What You Will Be Doing

    • General indoor and outdoor building maintenance
    • Minor repairs and basic handyman-type projects
    • Changing light bulbs, filters, batteries, and other routine items
    • Organizing and cleaning up of warehouse, storage areas, parking lot, garden
    • Checking buildings and property for maintenance or safety concerns
    • Putting away deliveries of construction materials, furniture, tools and equipment
    • Operating forklift to unload and load deliveries
    • Delivering items to job sites
    • Picking up items from suppliers
    • Upkeep of vehicle fleet, filling with fuel, washing, waxing, cleaning interior, dropping off for maintenance.
    • Winter maintenance will involve shoveling and applying salt or ice melt on walkways
    • Helping coordinate access for outside contractors when needed
    • Taking care of miscellaneous projects that come up around an active construction company
    • Letting the appropriate person know when something requires a licensed contractor or professional service

    What We’re Looking For

    • Dependable and able to work weekday afternoons through 5:00 PM
    • Handy and comfortable performing basic repairs and maintenance
    • Able to work independently and recognize what needs to be done
    • Takes Pride in keeping things clean, organized, and looking good
    • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors
    • Able to safely use basic hand and power tools
    • Takes initiative and has an eye for taking care of things
    • Valid driver's license required
    • Previous fork lift experience preferred
    • Able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting, carrying, bending, climbing stairs, and working on your feet in various weather, temperatures and conditions
