• Marina Dockhand - Legacy Water Sports

    Dockhands are responsible for providing exceptional customer service to all waterfront customers through fueling, renting, tying boats, and customer engagement.

    Essential duties and responsibilities
    • Fuel:
    o Properly and safely fuel all boats that come to the gas dock as SOP’s, policies, and training have instructed
    o Perform accurate gas/rental charges through processing system
    o Properly record fuel sales through established process and procedures
    • Public Docks:
    o With docking lines, spin all boats on all docks so the bow is facing toward the lake
    o Quickly assist to all boats coming in or out of the marina to ensure customers receive proper assistance upon their arrival and departure
     
    • Boat Rentals:
    o Understand and properly inform customers of the rental department basics such as what we rent, how to rent, pricing, policies
    o As assigned by supervisor, properly answer the telephone, take rental deposits, and accurately place customers on the rental calendar, following up with a confirmation email
    o Provide thorough boat rental orientations, answer customer questions, conduct drivers tests, and ensure customers are comfortable and safe prior to handing over the keys to the boat
    o Follow rental return processes, communicate any boat damages to management immediately
    o Assist with rental area; ensuring the site is always presentable and organized
    o Thoroughly clean rental boats upon each return
    o Responsible for uncovering/covering all rental boats daily
     
    • General:
    o Assist with customer check out, opening and closing procedures, inventory, and general procedures in the convenience store/pro shop (Lake Charlevoix)
    o Honestly report all tips and place them into the tip pool at the end of each shift
    o Greet all customers, trigger conversation to ensure customers feel welcomed and appreciated
    o Responsible for the cleanliness of the marina and docks
    o Document and communicate to Rental Manager any customers needs, accidents, or other occurrences that require the manager’s knowledge/action
    o Expected to stay busy at all times during shift – consistently finding tasks to do
    o Go above and beyond with customer service; make ALL customers feel welcomed and appreciated
     
    • Other tasks as requested by supervisor

    Swimming: Ability to swim and tread water required
    Running: Ability to run throughout the waterfront and marina, including on docks to ensure customers are attended to in time as they approach the dock, rental area, or any other area of the waterfront
    Schedule Flexibility: Understand the position is dependent on weather and traffic; shifts may be adjusted or cancelled accordingly
    Have Fun: Recognize the excitement of the job and come to work excited to learn, teach, and make connections with customers and partners
     
    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Computer Skills: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred
    • Background Check: pass a thorough background check required
    • Trailering/Launching: as assigned by supervisor – ability to trailer and launch different types and sizes of boats preferred
    • Boaters license: valid boaters license preferred
    • CPR: certified for CPR preferred
    • Knowledge and experience of boats and watersports: preferred
    • Trailering: ability to properly trailer and launch wake boats and pontoons. Preferred
    • Swim: ability to swim and tread water. Required
     
     
    WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    The work environment and physical demands listed below are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities.
     
    Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is quiet to medium loud.  Work is done in an office, on a boat, on the dock. Work will be mostly performed outside and on the water, in rain, wind, sun, and other types of weather.
     
    Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee regularly required to stand and walk and run.  Employee regularly uses hands and fingers to touch, feel, handle. Employee regularly stoops, kneels, bend at the waist, and reaches. Employee is required to speak and hear.  Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds on occasion.
     
    Schedule: The Dockhands schedule is released on a weekly basis. Shifts are traffic and weather dependent. It is expected that the Dockhand is flexible and understanding that in cases of poor weather and low traffic, shifts may be modified and/or canceled. Occasionally, the Dockhand may be scheduled at both waterfront locations in a given week: Walloon Lake and Lake Charlevoix
