Bay View Association is seeking a motivated, hands-on Waterfront Operations Manager to support the daily operations of our waterfront and help create a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for members and guests.
This is a great opportunity for someone with waterfront, boating, or outdoor recreation experience who enjoys problem-solving, working outdoors, and taking initiative. As a new and evolving role, this position offers the opportunity to grow over time and contribute to shaping the future of waterfront operations at Bay View.
Location: Bay View Association, Petoskey, MI
Reports To: Recreation Director
Compensation & Employment Details- Employment Type: Seasonal (Hourly, Non-Exempt). Housing is not provided.
- Pay Range: Starting at $25 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
- Benefits: Limited seasonal staff benefits, including discounts on recreation programs, education classes, and select performing arts events; opportunities for family participation may be available
Schedule:- Pre-season (mid-May–early June): Flexible hours for setup and preparation
- Assembly season (mid-June–early August): peak operations (includes some evenings/weekends)
- Post-season (Sept–mid-Oct): Flexible hours for season wrap-up and storage
- Schedule determined in advance with Recreation Director
Key Responsibilities
Waterfront Operations & Guest Experience- Support day-to-day waterfront operations, programming, and general oversight
- Help maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming environment
- Respond to routine questions, concerns, and user needs
- Promote and support a strong culture of safety
- Assist with safety procedures and emergency response readiness
- Serve as a point of contact for waterfront-related concerns as needed
- Work collaboratively with waterfront staff (swim, sailing, and boathouse teams)
- Help support communication, coordination, and daily workflow
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment
- Assist with oversight of boats, equipment, and waterfront spaces
- Help ensure equipment is used safely and maintained appropriately
- Support seasonal setup, breakdown, and storage
- Help track operational needs and communicate opportunities for improvement
- Support basic record-keeping and reporting
- Bring initiative and ideas to enhance waterfront operations over time
- Experience with boating, waterfront activities, or outdoor recreation preferred
- Interest in safety, operations, and working in an active outdoor setting
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Self-starter with the ability to take initiative
- Team-oriented with a flexible, positive approach
- Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid certification helpful but not required (training available)
The Bay View Association (BVA) is a National Historic Landmark founded in 1875 and an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. With more than 900 members, 445 cottages, and over 30 common buildings, Bay View offers summer programming in music, worship, lectures, recreation, and education, all open to the public.
